Eyes

So, yesterday Connor starts screaming around 11:45 telling me he hurt his eye. I tell him just to close it for a minute and it will quit hurting. 30 minutes later he tells me that it still hurts. I call the eye doctor and they are out for lunch. 45 minutes later I call back and they tell me to bring him in. He is in such pain that they put in numbing drops and get him to open his eye enough to see that there is some sort of scratch on his eye. Go home, put eye drops in every 2 hours and come back tomorrow (today).

Today we went back to the eye doctor. He was able to open his eye for a longer time. They were able to take a good look at the eye. He has a very large and deep scratch right in the center of his eye. Worst case is that he will lose his sight in that eye. Next worse is that they would have to do some sort of surgery, again with the chance of some sight loss. I know she was telling me worst case, but it is still very scary.

We go back tomorrow morning for another check. Hopefully it will be much improved.

Mackinac Trip

Our Trip started out on Tuesday July 7th. We got up and left for the 3 hour trip to Mackinac City. Stops included Shepard for McDonalds, Clare for the rest area and info center, and then another rest area for a senic overlook (which was not that great). Upon arrival we found the weather to be quite chilly and decided to visit Fort Michilimackinac. He we viewed a musket firing demonstration as well as some kids games and Connor's favorite the cannon firing. We got to play with some actual toys that kids would have played with had they lived in the fort. We each got two sticks and then had a hoop. We were supposed to catch the hoop with the sticks and then throw it back. Connor was quite good. Mommy, not so much.

After the Fort we checked into the hotel, the Baymont Inn and Suites. We were to have a king suite with a fridge and micro. When I think of suite, I think of two rooms, not one room with a pull out couch and the fridge and micro were shoved under the vanity in the bathroom. It was clean and the service was great, but if I were to go again, I would check out the Best Western Dockside which was to have indoor slides and more fun stuff at the pool for the kids, plus a larger breakfast area.

Wednesday brought nice weather and we headed to the Island. If you have never been there, they do not allow cars, only horses and bikes and your own two feet. We took the 10 am ferry which actually took us out under the Mackinac Bridge. Our first stop was For Mackinac where we toured and ate lunch overlooking the harbor. The view was really, really nice, but the food was a tad overpriced. Then we walked past the cementaries to Turtle Park where Connor played while Wyatt napped. Then another walk to Arch Rock. It is a really cook rock formation on the island. We then walked back into town where we stopped at the Butterfly house and then Connor and I rented a bike. We got a tag along and Connor was very unsure of it, so mom did most of the pedaling. After that it was dinner and then the boat ride back to the mainland.

Thursday we drove up to see Taquamon Falls. The color is not dirt, it actually picks up tanins from the minerals in the riverbed as it flows along. They were very cool, plus the walk was entirely paved and even Wyatt walked all the way. After the Falls it was time to see the Bear Ranch. Pretty cool place where I even got to feed the baby bear. He then attacked my glasses. Then it was time to drive home. We stopped in Clare again, this time at Big Boy and ate dinner. We arrived back at the cottage in time for the boys to run around some and then be put to bed.
We had a really nice trip and I can't thank my mom enough for going with me. When I get home I hope to be able to do some scrapbooking and show you some more pictures.
